How to Choose a Wealth Management Firm
Selecting a wealth management firm is a significant decision. The firm and adviser you choose will have meaningful influence over how your financial plan is structured, how your investments are managed, and how proactively your plan is updated over time.
- Fiduciary or suitability? Registered Investment Advisers are held to the fiduciary standard. Ask directly.
- Fee structure — fee-only (no commissions) vs. fee-based (commissions permitted). Understand all sources of adviser compensation.
- Credentials — CFP®, CFA®, CPA/PFS, and similar designations indicate relevant training.
- Service model — who will you work with day-to-day? How often will your plan be reviewed?
- Specialization — does the firm have experience with clients in situations similar to yours?
- Disclosures — review the firm's Form ADV Part 2 for conflicts, fees, and disciplinary history.
